Do I need pre-experimental safety approval or not?
YOU need pre-experimental safety approval if your project deals with: Projects using Human or Vertebrate animal subjects or their tissues or body parts, Microbes, rDNA, DEA controlled substances, or is a continuation project from a previous year's research. This includes projects done at a research institute if they deal with these aforementioned areas as well - These types of projects done at a Research Institute which will also need Form 1C and documentation that the project received approval from the reseach institute SRC, IRB or equivelent in addition to their required application packet type . Application Postmark Deadline by December 16, 2014
If your project area is not listed above then NO you don't need pre-experimental safety approval this includes those projects completed at a Research Institute which will also needForm 1C and documentation that the project received approval from the reseach institute SRC, IRB or equivelent in addition to their required application packet type. - If the project deals with any of the following it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you get our SRC approval (or that of the Research Institute if work was completed there) before beginning the experiment: Lab grade chemicals, prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco, devices that could shock, burn or wound, performing activities that involve a level of risk above and beyond that encountered in the student’s everyday life. Your Application Postmark Deadline by February 10, 2015 - But to insure a spot at the science fair & in case we have questions about your project that need to be resolved prior to accepting the application we recommend you mail it much earlier
